When it comes to getting married in Arizona (or anywhere for that matter), there are so many options for where and how to go about it. Even in Sedona, there are so many locations, outdoor and indoor, to put on a wedding. You can have a small, medium or large wedding celebration as well. All the options have their time and place. Jason and Angela chose an autumn elopement alongside Oak Creek on the West Fork trail near Sedona and it was intimate and beautiful.

Small elopements really distill what it means to get married right down to just the most important emotions, thoughts and feelings. The ceremony feels so crystalized. So personal. Photographing elopement ceremonies feels like I’m in a rarified space. It’s a priviledge.

Jason and Angela combined families, so all their kids were there along with one set of parents. After crossing Oak Creek (a little bit of a trick if you’re wearing a wedding dress), we walked out to a remarkable cliff overhang for the ceremony. The fall leaves in the canyon were beautiful and complimented the red rocks. The group took communion quietly alongside the water and then put together a puzzle that symbolically combined their two families together as one.

When the ceremony was over, we spent some time taking some family photos and then everyone headed back to the cars except for Angela, Jason and me. we explored the West Fork making awesome fall portraits. We then hopped in the cars and ran over to Cathedral Rock to make some more iconic Sedona Red Rock wedding photos.

It really was a beautiful afternoon and I’m so glad I was there to document the occasion!
