Ken Mattson and Barb Schuppe Mattson are both fantastic artists. I spent the morning with them hanging out in their loft space. It’s exactly what you think of when you think New York City artist’s loft. Huge rooms with high ceilings. Lots of space to live and work. But, their loft is out in the desert in Bullhead City Arizona. No kidding. Hey, who can afford a space like this in the big city? We had fun taking the photos. Enjoy!

When you start thinking about getting married you start thinking about wedding cakes. Or cupcakes. And if you’re getting married in Flagstaff, Sugar Mamas is a great option. Trust me. Tasty and good looking. Run by three women that know all you need to know about making sugary goodness. I recently dropped by the bakery and hung out with Nancy and Lexi and drank coffee as they put the finishing touches on a pretty fantastic wedding cake.

Abbey drove up from the Valley to take her senior portraits in Flagstaff on Friday the 13th. With a late spring storm on the horizon (literally), you might think the superstitious date meant we were in for it, but we found sun just before the weather took a turn for the worse. Abbey powered through despite pretty brisk temperatures. You would never know from the photos that her teeth were chattering away before many of the shots we captured. She rocked and it was so easy to take fantastic photos when she turned on her smile. Enjoy!

I met Jaye and her family down in Jerome last weekend for a senior portrait session. Jaye said she hopes to move to Jerome after she graduates to pursue her jewelry making. I hope she finds a way to make it happen. We started out at the Jerome Grand Hotel for some vintage style shots. After Jaye made a quick wardrobe change we set out to do some sight seeing. I had a great time getting to know Jaye and her family. The photos really show how much fun we had hiking around Jerome. Enjoy!

Jack Kruse’s family gathered in Flagstaff from points near and far to celebrate his 75th birthday. It was an evening devoted to celebrating Jack’s life and catching up with each other. After a catered mexican meal, cake was served and presents were opened. Jack’s heartfelt thank you at the end of the evening capped off a fantastic event.

Flagstaff’s High Altitude Roller Derby team was recently founded by Cat Andre and Alisha Kuyper. We recently shot round one of what will likely be at least another shoot, if not more, in order to get photos of everybody involved. We had a great time shooting at Mother Road Brewing Company and I think you can tell by looking at the pix. It’s easy to make some great images when you’re taking photos of the H.A.R.D. girls. They’ve got attitude!

My son Niko was born five weeks ago today. He’s beautiful (I’m biased but I’m pretty sure I’m right). My first son Milo is a fantastic older brother. I can’t wait to watch the two become friends. The Flagstaff High Altitude Roller Derby girls hosted a First Friday Artwalk party at Birch Ave. Tatoo Feb. 3. Birch Ave owner and tatoo artist Todd “Soup” Matyas designed four possible logos for the team which were on display. Mother Road Brewing Company provided the libations and sweet treats came from Sugar Mamas Bakery. Pretty darn fun as you can plainly see from the photos. Enjoy.

Who doesn’t love roller derby? Come on, girls with attitude, on skates and kicking some… well you get the picture. The opportunity came my way to be the Flagstaff High Altitude Roller Derby (H.A.R.D.) team’s “photography sponsor.” What’s that mean? I’ll be shooting promo material like calendar shots, skater profiles, action and bouts. Pretty fun stuff. These girls are fun people and radical skaters. Check out some recent practice shots.
